Community Agents News....

Over the past few months I have continued to support residents with information and I am now spending time within Llangollen Health Centre, making myself available to provide advice for the over 50’s. You can find me in the waiting room on the last Tuesday of the month 10 am –12. 00. The Cefn Mawr Community Agent will be available there every second Tuesday of the month 10 am – 12.00.

From the Autumn newsletter I have had a great deal of interested in the ‘Art’ project and plan to go ahead at the start of the New Year, beginning with a series of taster sessions to ‘whet’ your appetite. Ideas for these are: water colours, felting, ceramics, sketching, air drying.

During the run up to Christmas, craft sessions will take place at Garth and Trevor Community Centre 1.30 – 3.30 every Wednesday. These sessions will be, Christmas card making, decoration making etc. There will be a small charge for materials on the day. If you would like to join the afternoons, feel free to go along. Contact Joyce Evans 01978 823244 for more information on what is happening on which day.

We are launching a search for photographs or art work of any medium to put into a Community Calendar. The aim for this is to encourage residents from all three villages to take photographs of local landmarks, local seasonal scenes or of their own art/craft work over the next twelve months. All entries will need to be received by the end of October 2019, and will be independently judged, the winners will feature in the 2020 Llangollen Rural Calendar, which will be available for Christmas 2019. Happy Snapping!

Entries can be e mailed This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or handed in to any community councillor who will pass them on. I hope we will have a good response to this, I will keep you updated with progress.

Would there be anybody interested in an afternoon taster session of ‘Strictly Fun Dancing,’ Zumba Gold’ and ‘Chair Exercises’ These are low impact exercise for over 50’s and beyond. With the dark nights and colder weather nearly upon us, research suggests that ‘music and exercise’ can stimulate the body’s natural feel good chemicals. Let’s do it!

Please contact me for more details, if you would like to join the fun. 07956292546 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

International Older People’s Day was celebrated in our community by holding another Memory Lane Tea and Cakes. We had an interesting afternoon with past photographs of the locality. All enjoyed the ‘get together’

Please keep in touch with any ideas or suggestions.

What is a Community Agent?

Helping older people in Wrexham achieve a better quality of life!

Community Agents are an innovative response to a recognised need that many people living in our communities are unable to connect with key services that help and maintain well-being and support their quality of life.

Community Agents work with the over 50s in Wrexham, providing easy access to a wide range of information that will enable them to make informed choices about their present and future needs.

The aim is to help older people feel more independent, secure, and cared for, and to have a better quality of life.

Community Agents will support people living in areas of Wrexham, bridging the gap between the local community and the statutory or voluntary organisations and are able to offer help or support.

The scheme works because Agents live close to/ in the communities in which they work. Consequently, they know the villages and their people well.

Agents provide an overview of services available in the county and offer help to access them. They help in myriads of other ways too - thus winning the trust of those they help and enabling particularly older people to stay independent for longer.

What does it do?

  • Are you looking for free, confidential information and advice on local services?
  • Not sure who to turn to?
  • Do you live in Wrexham?

What it costs

  • The service is FREE of charge
