In 2007 Froncysyllte Community Centre had to raise funds to put towards a grant for improvements to the building. Dawn Needham and some of the ladies from the village asked if they could open the Community Centre kitchen at week ends and sell teas and light refreshments to locals and visitors to the area to help towards the fundraising.

Between June and October over £3,000 was raised and presented to the Community Centre Committee. Everyone involved enjoyed themselves so much that it was decided to to open up again every year. A meeting was held, constitution prepared and the name Cakes and Company (you enjoy our cakes, we enjoy your company) was decided on.

Local worthy causes benefit from the proceeds of the Café, we donate at least £500 per annum to 8 worthy causes in the village (Youth Club, School, Kids Club, Nursery, Chapel, Church, Derby & Joan and Pensioners Group).

The Café is open from Easter to October. The ‘Community Café’ has brought together local people, young and old, and also welcomes visitors to the area visiting the world famous Aqueduct.

Cakes and Company was the focal point in bringing the village together which culminated in us winning Calor Gas Village of the Year for the whole of Wales in 2008.

This resulted in a visit from HRH Prince Charles in 2009.

The prize money from Village of the Year was put towards the creation of a sensory garden in the grounds of the Community Centre.

Latest news:

In Autumn 2015 we had pleasure in giving grants of £1,000 to various good causes in Fron.

The Cafe will open again Saturday 26th March until Sunday 30th October 2016
